Applying for the test

This is the process for applying to do the IELTS test:

  1. Find your nearest centre, the dates and the cost.
  2. Either print off the Application Form or get one from the test centre.
  3. Take the completed form, the payment, your ID and two signed passport-size photos to the centre to register.  In some places, you can register online - contact the test centre.  A photocopy of your ID will be taken.
  4. You will be given your test date and time and your speaking test date and time.  Your speaking test is not necessarily on the same day.  You will also be given all the information you need for the day of the test.

Some points:

  • You need to know which module you are taking (Academic or General) when you fill in the Application form.
  • You must use the same ID to register and on the day of the test.
  • Your name on the form must be exactly the same as it appears on your ID.
  • You need to give two options for when you are able to take the test.
  • You can give details of institutions where you would like the Test Report Form (your IELTS certificate) sent. The form will be sent directly.
