Reading Questions: Types

There are various types of questions that you will meet in the Reading Test, whether you are taking the Academic or the General Training.  Below is a list of the most common.  Click on each one to get some more information.

Before you do that, let's check some definitions you will see:

• gist - the general meaning, the overall idea
• scan read - to read quickly looking for specific information, like a name or a date.
• skim read - to read quickly to get an overall idea (maybe reading only parts of the text like headings)
