IELTS Speaking Topics: Part 2

In IELTS Speaking Part Two, you are given a subject and asked to speak about it for 2 minutes.  You must speak for at least one minute.  If you are still talking after 2 minutes, the examiner will stop you.

It is important to practise doing the long turn while timing yourself.  It is hard to know how long you have been speaking unless you time it!

TASK

Below are some subjects for you to talk about.  Remember that you can give yourself one minute to make notes. Only write key words - don't try to write sentences!

Describe your favourite room:

You should say:

  • what it looks like
  • what is in it
  • and why you like it

 

Describe a skill you have:

You should say:

  • what the skill is
  • how you learnt it
  • and how it benefits you

Describe a subject you were good at at school:

You should say:

  • what the subject was
  • what you studied
  • and why you were good at it

 

Describe something you bought recently:

You should say:

  • what it was
  • why you bought it
  • and what you will do with it

Describe a member of your family:

You should say:

  • who that person is
  • what they are like
  • what you like about them 

 

Describe a time you helped someone:

You should say:

  • why the person needed help
  • and how you helped them

Describe a typical Sunday:

You should say:

  • what you do
  • where you go
  • and what you like about Sundays

Describe a hobby you had as a child:

You should say:

  • what it was
  • if you did it with a group
  • why you enjoyed it
