Reading Questions: True/False/Not Given

You are given a series of statements and you have to choose whether they are True, False or Not Given. Sometimes, the choice is No, Yes or Not Given. This is when the text gives the author's opinions rather than factual information.  The process is the same for both.

True - the statement agrees with the information in the text.

False - the statement contradicts the information in the text.

Not Given - the statement does not relate to any information in the text.

The hardest part is always the Not Given.  This means that there is no mention at all of the information in the statement in the text.

This is what you need to ask yourself:

"Does it say the same thing in the statement and in the text?" YES - The answer is TRUE.

"Does it have the opposite/different information from the statement in the text?" YES - The answer is FALSE.

"Does it have that informationin the statement and in the text?" NO, there is no mention - The answer is NOT GIVEN.

*For an answer to be false, you must be able to find contradictory information in the text.
