General Task One: Letter
Question You have applied for and been accepted on an English course in the UK. You are now unable to take the course. Write a letter to the principal of the school:
- saying that you cannot come
- explaining the reason why
- asking for a refund/new date
Answer
Dear Mr Jones
I am writing regarding my place to study English at English Summer Schools in Brighton next month.
I am afraid that I am unable to attend the course at this time. I am very sorry about this. A close member of the family has suddenly become ill and for this reason, I am required to stay at home for the next three months to take care of her. Unfortunately, I am the only person able to do this.
Could I possibly postpone my course until later this year, for example, October or November? I am very keen to improve my English and also to spend some time learning about British culture and therefore, I would be very grateful if you could consider my request.
If it is not possible to postpone it, is there any possibility of a refund an all or part of the cost of the course?
Thank you for your understanding.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards
